モルモットの臭腺

臭腺は２つ

モルモットは会陰部(会陰部腺)と臀部の背側正中にも臭腺(上尾部腺)がある。臭腺の油脂の分泌により濡れていたり、分泌物が付着して汚れて見える個体もいる。会陰部腺は陰部と肛門周囲に位置し、常にベトベトしている。

上尾部腺では周囲の被毛が薄くなっているいることもある。

マーキングに使用

臭腺は物に臭い付け(マーキング)をするのに使われ、マーキングは集団社会生活の中での優劣、縄張りの主張などに有用である〔Gary et al.1974〕。オスはメスと比べて臭腺が発達しており〔Breazile et al.1976;Quesenberry et al.2004）、去勢手術をするとオスの臭腺も萎縮する〔Iburg et al.2013〕。また、肥満な個体や老体では分泌物が過剰に産生される傾向がある。

成分は？

会陰部腺は皮脂腺複合体で構成され、分泌物の成分は揮発性の脂肪酸、アルコール、ケトンからなる〔Judith et al.1979〕。
